Nice

Nice. That's what we're all taught to be as kids, aren't we?
What they don't teach us, is that we don't always have to be nice.
Sometimes, not being nice is just better for you.
You don't exist in this world to be nice to others. You're not required to. Nobody expects you to. You live this life for yourself because it's yours. So, you're not hurting anyone, okay, that's fine. That's all you need to do: not hurt anyone.
You don't have to be nice.
It's not on your contract in life.
Sometimes nice is overrated and it's going to get you hurt.
If you're not looking out for yourself as well, then what's this nice going to do?
What's this nice going to affect?
What good is nice if it's the reason you get hurt?
Yes, it's good to be nice. Of course it is. Make someone's day better. Make someone smile.
But some things, some people, just aren't worth your nice. Reserve it for when it matters.
Some people will take advantage of your nice.
And that's the harsh truth.
Be nice, yes, but know when to be assertive or aggressive. Know when it's time to hurt someone's feelings if it means you can get away. Know when that red light starts flashing in front of your eyes.
Nice isn't required of you.
Nice is not something you owe anyone.
